Mr. Katsutaro Takenaka, a teacher at the local Nanbu High School, was appointed as the chairman of the committee, and under his guidance, the school took the lead in conducting the survey. From 114 individuals selected from each region, six excellent varieties were selected over a period of five years, and the one that was particularly excellent was "Minamiko".
