The Beginning of Uminoko Coffee

Our activities began in Luang Prabang, the ancient capital of Laos in Southeast Asia.

In fact, I wasn't originally trying to make coffee, but I was asked if I could do something to improve deforestation in Laos, and I visited the site. What I learned was that the acceleration of the cycle of traditional slash-and-burn agriculture and large-scale plantations as an alternative farming method have led to deforestation due to population growth and the influx of money economy.

When I turned my attention to the forest, I saw a small coffee tree planted among the large trees. In the past, Europeans distributed seedlings and taught them how to grow them, but there were not enough sales channels, and many trees were left alone. The activity, which began in Laos in 2016, developed into Hainoko Coffee in 2018.

Currently, we handle specialty coffee from nine Asian countries, including Myanmar and Nepal, and roast the beans in-house to realize "Seed to Cup".

Giving back to producers, environmental conservation, respect for local culture, and diverse deliciousness. Valuing these four things, we deliver "total quality" coffee, as well as the nature of the production area and the thoughts of the people who live there.
