In Showa 62, six farmers from Akita Prefecture stood up. Faced with the harsh reality of rice reduction policy and falling rice prices, Komachi Food Industry Co., Ltd. was born out of the pure desire to "have many people eat delicious Akita Komachi from Akita Prefecture." Despite the urgent task of improving farmers' incomes, the founders set out to develop their flagship product, Komachigayu, with a passion to deliver the splendor of Akita's rich nature to the whole country.
At that time, products using preservatives and seasonings were the mainstream, but we insisted on additive-free products, using nothing other than "Akitakomachi" and "natural groundwater". This is because they value the deliciousness of the ingredients themselves and have a strong belief in providing food that can be eaten with peace of mind. Even now, 38 years after its founding, this sentiment has been passed down unchanged. Our goal is to deliver food grown naturally in the blessed Akita to the whole country as "more delicious" and "safe to eat" food.
What are we doing?
At the heart of our product manufacturing is our absolute commitment to using 100% "Akitakomachi" from Akita Prefecture. The specially selected rice grown at the foot of the World Heritage Site Shirakami Mountains is a refreshing blessing of nature. In the manufacturing process, no raw materials other than "Akitakomachi" and "natural groundwater" are used, and seasonings and preservatives are completely eliminated. While the market is flooded with easy-to-eat seasoned products, we have continued to manufacture and sell only "white yu" since our founding.
In recent years, the importance of emergency food stockpiling has been widely recognized through large-scale natural disasters such as the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and the Great East Japan Earthquake. In particular, for the elderly, infants, and other vulnerable people in disasters, "porridge" that is easy to eat and easy to digest has become indispensable. Komachigayu has been recognized for its usefulness as an emergency food in the event of a disaster, and is still used by many local governments, hospitals, and facilities for the elderly. The combination with canned plums, which extended the shelf life to five years and won the Excellence Award in the Canned Food category of the SDGs Disaster Food Awards 2023, has been highly regarded as the "strongest tag team for emergency food stockpiles."

It uses Kishu Nanko plums with a salt content of 6% and has a shelf life of 5 years. "Iburigakko Can" is an innovative product that won the Gold Award, Locality Judging Award, and Taste Evaluation Judging Award at the FOODEX JAPAN2015 Local Canned Food Grand Prix.
