About < products>
Roasting brings out more than just roasted aroma.
Japanese black tea is a domestically produced black tea. By withering the Unka buds*1 of the Fuuki variety*1, which are considered best suited for Japanese black tea, and then adding even stronger roasting, we brought out a variety of aromas such as flowers, honey, and fruit. It has a sweet and rich aroma, unlike other Japanese teas or overseas teas. It has a rich yet moist flavor, enveloped by a pleasant lingering aroma.
Winner of the "Domestic Black Tea Grand Prix 2020 Runner-up."
*1 Planthopper bud: A bud that emits a sweet honey-like fragrance when bitten by an insect called Planthopper (Chanomidorihimekokoby).
*2 Withering: The evaporation of moisture from tea leaves causing wilting. This process promotes oxidative fermentation, producing a floral aroma.

■ Samurai-Teafarm
The Yamamoto family is a distinguished lineage, having served as imperial physicians for the Tokugawa family during the Edo period, and by the late Edo period, they were members of an elite unit protecting the 15th shogun, Lord Tokugawa Yoshinobu. In the early Meiji era, after the fall of the Edo shogunate, the Yamamoto family settled as a pioneer group on the Makinohara Plateau. Among the pioneering groups, only Makinoharayama Main Garden continues to make tea from descendants of the shogunate retainers.
The current fifth-generation owner, Morihiko Yamamoto, has developed teas with particular focus on aroma, such as Japanese black tea, fragrant green tea, and Minami Sayaka. We continue to challenge ourselves with tea-making that only Mr. Yamamoto, who inherited the pioneering spirit and is not bound by existing frameworks, can do this.
Winner of the 'Fujinokuni Mountain Tea 100 Selections,' 'Japanese Tea AWARD,' 'Domestic Black Tea Grand Prix,' and 'Japanese Black Tea Festival.'
■ About the Makinohara Plateau in Shizuoka Prefecture
Located in the central-western part of Shizuoka Prefecture, facing Mount Fuji, Suruga Bay, and the Oi River, the Makinohara Plateau boasts a mild climate and well-drained soil ideal for tea cultivation.
In the early Meiji period, after the fall of the Edo shogunate and drastically changing times, unemployed samurai, Kawagoe laborers, and local farmers developed this land, which had previously been wilderness. More than 150 years later, vast tea gardens known as Japan's top tea-producing region have spread, and a new era of tea has been ushered in, with methods such as the now mainstream 'deep-steamed tea' and the World Agricultural Heritage 'Chagusaba farming method.'
