ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ASTRA FOOD PLAN
The business started with the development of a drying device called "superheated steam steamer" using the "superheated steam" technology that the representative's father had been working on for many years.
The "superheated steamer" was completed as a device that can dry and sterilize food in just 10 seconds. Compared to freeze-drying and air-drying, which take about 24 hours to dry, it is overwhelmingly fast.
Social Issue "Hidden Food Loss"
When we interviewed food manufacturers to find out their needs, we found that many manufacturers are facing issues with the cost of disposing of leftovers.
Voices such as "We dispose of 5 tons of Chinese cabbage core and outer leaves a day" and "700 kg of onion slice scraps are generated per day" were raised, and when I was shown them, they were beautiful and contained many edible parts.
"Food loss" refers to unsold products and leftovers, while the disposal of leftovers and leftovers from food factories is defined as "hidden food loss."
We decided to develop our business with the goal of upcycling unused ingredients that are "hidden food loss" in a "superheated steamer" to reduce it to zero.
Birth of "Gururiko ®"
I thought that since the wonderful equipment was completed, it would be sold quickly to food manufacturers who are having trouble disposing of leftovers, but it was not so easy.
The food powder produced by the "superheated steamer" has a very strong flavor and is an "unprecedented" ingredient, including the fact that it is made from offcuts.
Conversely, since it is an ingredient that is not yet in demand, food manufacturers are reluctant to introduce a superheated steamer, saying, "If we can secure a buyer for powder, we would like to purchase the equipment."
Therefore, we named the upcycled powder produced by the superheated steamer "Gururiko ®" and decided to develop a sales channel for ASTRA FOOD PLAN.
The name is a combination of the word "gururi" which means circular type and the word "ko" for powder.
