01Recovery of marine plastics
The marine plastics that are used as materials are picked up by the team members themselves. About once a month, we go from Gifu Prefecture, which is a sealess prefecture, to the sea in Aichi, Fukui, and Ishikawa prefectures to clean up the coast. Of course, we collect as much garbage as possible other than materials, and we are working with the mindset of cleaning up the beaches we visited that day.
02Separation and cleaning of marine plastics
The collected marine plastics are taken home, sorted by hardness and size, and washed. At this time, avoid using detergents and bleaches that pollute the water as much as possible, and carefully remove the dirt by hand by repeating the washing with water.
03Color coding of ocean plastics
The cleaned plastics are sorted by color. The cleaned plastics are so colorful that it's hard to believe that they were originally garbage, and they're already cute at this point...! I hope that these children will be reborn in a new form and be able to make people happy like they did when they were active in the past.
04Finely grind ocean plastic
The color-coded plastics will be finely crafted so that they can be used as jewelry materials. Even though it is grinded, it is all done by hand, and it is cut to a size of 3 ~ 10 mm using several types of scissors
05Jewelry design, fabrication and processing
The cleaned marine plastics are rehardened with a transparent resin called resin, which is cured by light. At that time, glitter and shell fragments are also included to give the impression of glittery jewelry. If there are many plastics of the same color, such as white and black, you can make the same pattern design, but basically the colors have a wide range of shades and brightness, so most of Sobolon's products are one-of-a-kind designs.
