The dial was coated with a powder (mineral pigment) made from crushed minerals called azurite (Japanese name: indigo copperite).
Since rock paints were introduced to Japan during the Asuka period, they have been used unchanged for about 1,400 years, and are representative of Japan art. It is a very expensive paint, and it is said that it was traded at a higher price than gold in the Edo period.
The main body is made by a method called "potter's wheel pulling" in Kaga Yamanaka, Ishikawa Prefecture, which has a history of more than 400 years as a lacquerware production area, by applying a halberd (canna) to a rotating tree. The material is zelkova, the wood grain is beautiful, and the texture is smooth and moist.
The dial is made of Japanese paper made by Mayumi Ishikawa, who makes Japanese paper in Futamata Town, Kanazawa City.
On top of that, "mineral pigments" made by crushing natural stones are applied in layers. The index is gold leaf from Kanazawa.
