Studio Kyoryu's garden creation begins with the philosophy of "being close to nature".
At the core of our approach is organic practices that do not rely on chemical fertilizers or pesticides. We value the balance of microorganisms and ecosystems in the soil, and emphasize bringing out the natural vitality of plants. This is not just a "pesticide-free" approach, but a comprehensive perspective that takes into account the climate, history, and ecosystem of the area as a whole.
In particular, we are particular about the use of "native plants". While only invasive and improved varieties are in the spotlight, we are reevaluating the appeal and value of native plants that have taken root in the region. These plants are perfectly adapted to the local climate and soil, and also have a symbiotic relationship with local insects and birds. Planting plans centered on native plants are also directly linked to protecting local biodiversity.
By working based in areas rich in nature, such as Karuizawa and Miyota, we observe the changes of the four seasons and the activities of nature on a daily basis, and apply that knowledge to our designs. We aim to create a truly sustainable landscape that combines design and environmental consideration at a high level.
