POTR is a sustainable plant pot brand born in Scotland, launched in 2021 by Andrew and Martin, who were involved in product design at Dyson.
The idea for Potter came to my mind when I wondered if I could change things in my home to something sustainable as Stayhome continued during the Corona disaster. When he looked at the carbon footprint from manufacturing to disposal, he found that it produced a surprising amount of carbon dioxide, and when he thought about how to make a sustainable product and make it more compact, Andrew says that "origami" came to mind.
"Under the influence of my artistic mother, I have been playing with origami since I was a child, and when I thought about making the product more compact, the image of origami naturally came to my mind. In the process of prototyping the design, I made different shapes out of paper and tried them out."
After a lot of trial and error, the "origami" design was useful to add strength to the product, and the modern and sustainable "Potter" was born.
After completing the product, he thought that the "origami pot" was already sold in the market, and when he looked it up, he found that there were many "fake" products that looked like origami in design but did not actually flatten, so he applied for crowdfunding.
After 20 days of exhibiting POTR and raising £30,000, a 5000% increase on the requested amount, it was followed by a groundbreaking award for recycled plastics at Milan's Design Week and an entrepreneurship award in Scotland.
POTR's product manufacturing motto is "Let's grow more" and "Let's eliminate more waste." We believe it's important to be more minimal and play a variety of roles, and our mission is to provide sustainable and hassle-free plant care for everyone.
