The reason for starting The Old Grey Brewery is that co-presidents Kurihara and Kikuchi have been friends since their school days, and Kurihara runs a shared office and share house in Tokyo, aiming to recycle resources, revitalize the local economy, and create culture while preserving and regenerating rich nature and ecosystems.
When Kikuchi launched HAKU Hostel + Cafe Bar in Shiraoi in 2018 after encountering craft beer culture while studying in the United States, he thought, "How wonderful it would be to be able to make really delicious beer in Shiraoi, which has this rich nature and culture." There was an encounter with Mr. Toga, a brewing professional, and the feelings of the three overlapped.
The goal is not just to make beer, but to become a "brewery that creates a new landscape". I want to connect culture, community, and industry to create a "happy landscape" where people, life, and nature interact and make use of each other. I want to realize life in a natural capital society, not financial capitalism. With that in mind, I decided to create a new ecosystem through uncompromising beer production.
