We continue to take on the challenge of creating unique value by breathing new life into materials that would otherwise be discarded and leaving memories of our travels in form.
In the Y43 Tokaido Shinkansen series, materials that would otherwise be discarded are recycled using two approaches: recycling and upcycling.
For recycling, the window (polycarbonate material) of the Tokaido Shinkansen N700 series type A is processed into granules and 30% is blended into the main shell of the suitcase. It took many failures and reconsiderations until we found the perfect balance between strength and suppleness. It was an unprecedented challenge to utilize the same polycarbonate material but with completely different handling methods for bullet train windows.
In upcycling, the moquette fabric for the seats is washed and processed and transformed into various products such as suitcase interiors, key chains, and cushion covers. This fabric, called "velvet" or "velvet", is characterized by its high-quality appearance and feel, and the texture that has been used for many years is also valued as a taste.
In addition, recycled aluminum taken from the vehicle is used as a badge. This recycled aluminum also has the environmental advantage of reducing CO2 emissions during manufacturing by 97% compared to new aluminum.
