At HONUA Surfrider, we make cosmetics while valuing the traditions and blessings of nature that are rooted in the southern islands. In order to realize our brand's worldview, the first thing we value is "connection with the local community". I personally visit the fields of plants that grow on the island, such as yalabu (terihaboku), moon peach, and henna, and interact with the local people through agricultural work, and feel firsthand how the materials are grown and harvested.
In product manufacturing, we are thoroughly committed to the production background and quality control of materials. For example, in the manufacture of Yarab oil, we ensure traceability by doing everything from picking seeds to shelling and oil extraction in-house. Recently, we introduced a custom-made Yalabu shell splitter in Kuroshima, Okinawa Prefecture, to reduce the workload on local people and establish a system that can extract more high-quality oil. This automation and efficiency have also led to the revitalization of local communities.
We are also actively working to solve SDGs and social issues, such as reusing fallen trees and cooperating with local education. By reusing fallen Yalabu trees, we reduce resource waste and contribute to the creation of a recycling-oriented society in the region. In community education activities in collaboration with Kuroshima Elementary and Junior High School, we convey the importance of nature and the joy of manufacturing to children.
In product development, we combine traditional wisdom with modern technology to test recipes over time. We also focus on packaging design and information dissemination, striving to convey the appeal and background of our products. It is also our commitment to carry out management, sales, and shipping in-house and deliver it to our customers responsibly. Each of these accumulations shapes the world view of HONUA Surfrider.
