[The last soap factory in Palestine]
Nabul soap is a traditional soap that has been passed down in Palestine for over a thousand years. There used to be more than 30 soap factories in the city of Narblus, which exported soap to the world. However, due to repeated wars and disasters, the number has drastically decreased, and now there is only one factory that can handle exports, the "Nables Soap Company".
This factory was founded in 1611 and boasts a history of more than 400 years, and is run by the Tubere family, a famous soap family.
The family is also the origin of the word "Tubele", a craftsman who cuts soap, and has continued to protect its skills and pride from generation to generation.
The soap industry in Nerblus has flourished since the 10th century and has been loved by European royalty and aristocracy. However, many factories were lost due to the destruction of the old town by the 1927 earthquake, as well as occupation and war after the 20th century. In the midst of the still difficult situation, the craftsmen continue to inherit the traditional kiln-fired manufacturing method and continue to deliver soap to the world.
And we must not forget the existence of the "olive tree".
Olives are the tree of life that supports the lives of Palestinians and are the raw material that can be said to be the life of soap.
However, the fields have been devastated by destruction, harvest obstruction, and arson by settlers, making it difficult to secure raw materials.
Still, the craftsmen do not lose hope and continue to connect peace and culture to the future through soap making.
In December 2024, the tradition was also declared a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Nerbles Soap is organic and cruelty-free (not tested on animals) and can be used on sensitive skin and infants.
It is not just a soap, but a "product with a story" that conveys history and peace.
