Kageyama Refinery has been producing rapeseed oil for 70 years in Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture. Its journey began with the sacred mission of continuing to offer rapeseed oil as a lantern oil for Izumo Taisha. Currently, more than 99% of rapeseed, which is the raw material for rapeseed oil, depends on imports, and most of it is genetically modified, we are passionate about the production of rapeseed oil made only from pure domestic rapeseed with the motto "safe and secure".
Why did you choose this path? That's because they have a strong belief in passing on authentic taste and safety to the next generation. The traditional method of roasting in a pot with firewood without gas or heavy oil, and the pressing method of Ichiban pressing – all of these are our pledges to bring back the memories of the golden rapeseed fields that were once seen all over Japan, and to deliver truly safe and delicious rapeseed oil to everyone. As the only company in Japan that is allowed to describe "domestic rapeseed" in the raw material name column on the label, we are still facing oil refining today with this pride and responsibility in mind.
What Kageyama Refinery pursues is not just the production of rapeseed oil. What we want to achieve is the highest quality rapeseed oil that combines the inheritance of Japan's food culture with true safety.
In order to realize this worldview, we maintain an uncompromising commitment to everything from raw material production to the manufacturing process. The National Research and Development Corporation has accepted the regular use rights for the original varieties of the erucinic acid-free varieties "Nanaki Kibu" and "Kirariboshi", and the original species are strictly managed. Since rapeseed is easy to hybridize with other varieties and Chinese cabbage, it is cultivated in isolation in an online house, and the seeds are renewed and provided to contract farmers every year.
In manufacturing, we continue to follow the traditional manufacturing method of the old days. The flat pot is placed on one of the largest furnaces in Japan, and the roasting level is finely adjusted according to changes in the weather, temperature, and humidity. Burn pine firewood with strong fire, adjust the heat level while watching the color of the burning firewood, and finish it in the best roasting state that is easy to squeeze oil. This laborious and time-consuming process is the secret to producing rapeseed oil with its colorful and fragrant rapeseed oil. In addition, no chemicals are used from oil extraction to purification, and it is rich in natural vitamin E and is resistant to oxidation.
