"So that all dogs and cats can stay healthy for a long time"
MEDICAT/MEDIDOG began with such a thought from Representative Tanaka.
The trigger was that my cat got sick.
At that time, he contracted a disease for which there was no cure, and doctors sentenced him to life expectancy.
Even though I was a pharmacist and a medical professional, I could only watch my beloved cat as the disease progressed rapidly and weakened, and at that time I felt very distressed and helpless.
Desperately searching for a treatment method, I found a treatment drug that was not approved in Japan, and by trying it, my cat was able to recover.
However, it is unclear if it is a sequelae, but my cat still has an allergic constitution, and his skin and paw pads are easily rough.
Through this experience, I began to wonder if I could use my medical knowledge that I had cultivated for people to cats, and if I could create an environment where cats would not get sick.
In the pet industry, the concept of prevention is currently less widespread than in humans, and "diseases that do not need to be prevented" that can be prevented by lifestyle habits are widespread. In one survey that examined the reasons for visiting a veterinary clinic, dermatitis was the top choice, second in cats and first in dogs.
The skin of cats and dogs is very delicate, and the thickness of the skin is only about one-third that of humans. It has the same structure as human skin, but because it has a thinner layer, it inevitably stores less water and is more prone to dryness.
In addition, the body temperature is high, so it is easy to evaporate.
That is why moisturizing and daily skin care are important in preventing impressions, but none of them are considered a problem because they are not fatal diseases.
Therefore, I launched MEDICAT/MEDIDOG in pursuit of "pet wellness" and wanted to make sure that all cats and dogs can spend as much time as possible with their owners by living a healthy life.
