A one-of-a-kind craft rum liquor born from the Welsh coastline and seaweed tradition
Pembrokeshire, Wales, surrounded by the sea, is surrounded by the rich nature and the seaweed culture that takes root there. And the story of the legendary pirate Bartholomew Roberts, who once left this place and was called "Barty Do" (Black Bart).
Where these elements intersect, Jonathan Williams founded "Balti".
Originally known as the "Crazy Seaweed Man," Jonathan launched the Pembrokeshire Beach Food Company, a seaweed-based food business, in 2010 to serve dishes that make the most of seaweed and seafood from the local coast.
However, his creativity and adventurous spirit sought further expression. During the holidays after the birth of his second child, he came up with a new project that he was passionate about: spiced lime made with local seaweed.
"I simply wanted to make the best spiced Islam in the world that I wanted to drink, and it was a simple decision," Jonathan says.
In 2017, "Balti de Ram" was born, which combines local pirate legends with seaweed culture. After that, it changed its name to "Balti Spice Rum" and grew into one of Wales' leading rum brands.
