Adult males have dark brown bodies, while females and young fur seals tend to have light gray undersides of their bodies. They usually eat krill, squid, penguins, and fish. The breeding range of Antarctic fur seals is mainly south of the Antarctic Convergence Line, and the breeding grounds further north are the islands of three groups: the Prince Edward Islands, the Croese Islands and Macquarie Island. The largest aggregate of Antarctic fur seals that breed in summer occur in South Georgia during the breeding season, but the winter breeding site is unknown.
