The hemp leaf pattern is said to have the effect of warding off evil spirits, and has been used to decorate the clothes of Buddha statues since the Heian period. In addition, hemp grows quickly and is very strong and durable, so it is a pattern often used for children's clothing with the hope that it will grow healthy.
By layering ultra-thin Japanese paper (Tosa Noritsu Paper) on platinum foil, platinum sparkles and shines delicately through the gaps between the fibers of the washi paper, and on top of that, Japanese paper cut out in a hemp leaf pattern is pasted on top of it. By changing the way the light hits and the angle of view, the underlying platinum shines softly and the hemp leaf pattern emerges.
The main body is made by a method called "potter's wheel pulling" in Kaga Yamanaka, Ishikawa Prefecture, which has a history of more than 400 years as a lacquerware production area, by applying a halberd (canna) to a rotating tree. The material is zelkova, the wood grain is beautiful, and the texture is smooth and moist.
The dial is made of Japanese paper made by Mayumi Ishikawa, who makes Japanese paper in Futamata Town, Kanazawa City.
On top of that, "mineral pigments" made by crushing natural stones are applied in layers. The index is gold leaf from Kanazawa.
