I started making chopsticks because I thought it was unthinkable to get a normal job without being involved in Palestine.

It was in 2018 that I visited Palestine for the first time with a journalistic pretentiousness.
At the time, I was in my third year of university.

Although I had a preconceived notion of a "conflict zone," I became friends with Palestinians on the street and wanted to learn more about them, so I experienced a one-month homestay in the summer of the same year.
From the first day of my stay, my host family treated me as a member of the family as a matter of course, and worried and protected me as if I were a toddler because I couldn't speak Arabic (in fact, I got lost, my stomach was broken, and I was inconvenienced in various ways).

They were ordinary citizens, going about their daily lives, shopping, going to school, getting together with their relatives, going on picnics, etc.

However, as "Palestinians," they are not guaranteed the right to live their lives freely under occupation. As an outsider, I don't have to go anywhere and I don't have any danger, but they are like criminals even though they are constantly getting permission, being monitored, being checked, and not doing anything wrong. Being under occupation is a special thing that is difficult to understand from the outside.

Until about 100 years ago, Palestine was a region where pagans coexisted.
Although of different faiths, Jews, Christians, and Muslims spoke Arabic, and their food culture and music were mixed.

In 1948, when Israel, a country of Jewish immigrants, was established in Palestine,
The people who were originally there fled to the surrounding area and became refugees, or remained in their hometowns and were under control.
We don't have a country even now.

Palestine as conjured up by the expression "conflict zone"
Despite its bitter history, Palestine is kind to people and lives strongly.
In order to convey what we have seen and heard, we have started "Kake Chopsticks" to deliver handiwork.
What are we doing?
Chopsticks
(1) Direct transactions on a small scale, not on mass production and disposal
(2) The Role of Fair Trade in Cultural Dissemination and Peacebuilding
I cherish it.

The world is already full of things.
If you simply make a lot of products, it will lead to environmental destruction and garbage problems.
Therefore, the chopsticks are made from a natural material called "olive" grown in Palestine and pruning material, and the leftover cloth from the region.Something that can be used for a long time, regardless of age or gender.carefully selected.

Furthermore, by the time I was born at the age of 26, the lives of ordinary people in Japan had become inconvenient, and there were things around me that were taken for granted. Even if you take a single chopstick,Where and how is it made and where is it here?As I got older, I realized that I couldn't see production at all.
In order to bring the distance between consumption and production, which have been separated, closer to each other, we conduct direct transactions in collaboration with organizations and individuals whose faces I know.
Nice touch"Small shopping"It is the joy of starting this job that our customers enjoy it together.

Fair trade has an environmental impact in terms of transporting goods from overseas.
However, with chopsticks,A sense of scale rather than distanceWe place great importance on the following:
Not mass-produced,Small economic zone.
We want to create a lifestyle centered on face-to-face buying and selling and circulation.
In this context, I think it is very important to have connections with people from overseas.
Because Japan is not made up of Japan alone.
In international politics, it is easy for wars to break out and we civilians become victims.
In order not to fight, it is essential to have a channel to get to know each other, and without it, there is no place to talk. That's why we have to sprinkle connections with overseas countries in a small economic zone.
Through the dissemination of Palestinian culture,Grassroots PeaceI want to cultivate.

Who are supporting us?
≪ customer segment≫
The followers of Instagram, which is the main source of chopsticks, are 6:4 for women:men, and the age group is most in their 30s ~ 40s, and the engagement is high.
The customers in the face-to-face sales are also about 7:3 or 6:4 for men, and the generation is mainly in their 30s ~ 50s, but the brand itself is operated by a representative born in 96, and there are a certain number of customers in their 20s who have been working for several years due to their connection with Generation Z.

≪ point of view≫
From the perspective of "ethical" and "plastic-free", interest in unpainted wood products tends to be high.
Even without such context, there are many people who stop because they "like wooden products" or "I don't have eyes ~".
In particular, olives have a strong grain claim, so I think it is easy for people to notice it even if they pass by.
If you like traditional crafts or kimonos, you will be interested in Palestinian textiles and embroidery.
