❝326.2 billion yen❞
This figure shows the market size of the domestic outdoor industry in 2021. Furthermore, it is predicted to be 370.6 billion yen by 2025. Since the Corona disaster, more people than ever have enjoyed the outdoors, but there are hidden problems that cannot be ignored.
Camping and the outdoors can bring you closer to your loved ones while enjoying inconveniences, and refresh your mind and body by immersing yourself in nature. However, behind all these wonderful aspects, there is also a lot of discarded gear and items that are no longer in use.
When I was a university student, I studied poverty in the Philippines and deeply felt the impact of the mass consumption model in developed countries on the global environment. This experience has guided my thinking and actions, and I have continued to look for ways to address environmental issues.
My hometown of Shizuoka is rich in nature, such as the sea and mountains, and the outdoors are also very popular. Ever since I was a child, I have enjoyed barbecuing by the river and camping in the mountains with my family. These experiences fostered a desire in me to preserve this beautiful environment forever through the outdoors.
From this experience, I felt the importance of the sustainable outdoors and strongly realized the need to take action. As an answer, I launched the outdoor brand Afora. From product planning to manufacturing and sales, our development guidelines are to provide high-quality items that minimize environmental impact and can be used for a long time.
What is Afora?
The brand name Afora is named with the idea of "enjoying your favorite items, anywhere, forever". The origin of its name is a combination of the Portuguese words Adora "love" and Fora "outdoor".
