My poems may not be haiku, nor may they be Kawayanagi. An old lady I met in Hiroshima told me that George's poems were like "sketches of the mind." Fine, I'm saying my feelings from the heart. Sometimes it's too straight, though! Smile.
I love 575, but I also love storytelling through illustrations. That's how I got into the world of picture books. This is the very first picture book! "Nice to meet you, George."
The first edition consisted of 10 books, all hand-drawn, but handwritten picture books were difficult (laughs), so this time I printed them properly.
From there, I made a flip book for fun, and the next big work was this "The Techno Kiwi"
The Techno Kiwi is a story that I really wanted to have, with music and community at the center. I spent two years working on the idea and the book, hiking, studying wild birds, and starting watercolor painting to make it look good (laughs).
This book is bilingual and printed on a lithograph with beautiful colors! When you listen to Kiwi's story, I think you will sympathize with her while being healed, so I recommend it!
